It takes a second to get an idea of how big Cyberpunk 2077 is. After clicking on a new game, you are given an extensive character builder that allows you to customize V, the main character of the game, in countless ways. You decide everything from eye shape to nail length, and as you've probably heard so far, penis size and pubic hair style.

Deep customization options foreshadow what's to come: a huge world to explore, extensive role-playing mechanics that let you choose how to navigate in combat, and endless opportunities to shape how the story is played. Cyberpunk 2077 is a monster-one that is sometimes ungainly, but clearly laid out with mastery (and unfathomable amount of working hours).

First unveiled in 2013 by Cd Projekt RED, the studio behind The Witcher series, Cyberpunk 2077 brings a launch fueled by a huge amount of hype. But the past few months have seen the game suffer from delays and crisis reports, leading some to worry that the game is too big and ambitious for CD Projekt Red to handle.

These fears can be largely forgotten. Cyberpunk 2077 is real, although some of the speed issues and glitches mostly benign, it's exactly what fans hope it will be.

Just like no two players are likely to design the same V, no two will get the same exact Cyberpunk 2077 experience. The decisions you make will change how missions work, how characters treat you and how the game ends.

But while the details may vary, the millions who are committed to the long-awaited game on Thursday will receive the same pitch that has been achieved accurately in Night City, a stadium expansion too can play until the year 2077 actual and still probably not see everything.

Note: I've played about 45 hours of the game at the time of writing this review. I'm gonna sink more time in side quests-West in the city night-during the next few days, I will update this article as I see more of the game.

Watch this: Cyberpunk 2077 no glitches, but still worth playing

"You are breathtaking"
If there's one side of Cyberpunk 2077 that's better than I expected, it's the story.

Play as V, A human mercenary enhanced with robotic electronic software. The game's opening mission has you listening to the prototype immortality chip from one of the great companies that inhabit the Night City. You end up keeping the chip safe by inserting it into your software, only to discover that it is loaded with the character of Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves), a rebellious mercenary who died in the blaze of glory 50 years ago. Oh, you can also figure out the chip has mixed up with your nervous system, so you can't take it out, and that Silverhand consciousness will eventually outperform you, meaning your body will live on but not your mind, soul or soul.

Damn computers.

The main quest is all about finding a way to stay alive and rid yourself of the Silverhand while interacting at one time with him and learning about his past. Drag opening hours, but the combo picks up once Silverhand is served about five hours in. V and Silverhand are basically double Heroes Here, their relationship supports a lot of what you see and do in the Night City. This is one of the story's biggest strengths: Silverhand helps keep the narrative focused.

This is a big deal for such a huge game. A typical problem for huge open world games like Cyberpunk is that it is difficult for developers to write interesting plots and complex characters about the user-created protagonist. The characters surrounding end up being one-dimensional by default because they need to fit about any personality you choose for your character, and writers do not have the luxury of control over your character and sew relationships with them.

Some of the downsides of storytelling "choose your own adventure" remain here-many of the people you interact with have the depth of cardboard cutout. But V's relationship with captivating Silverhand is a constant highlight, one that shines brighter as we get closer to the game finale.

Which brings me to a big twist: I first saw Cyberpunk 2077 roll credits after about 26 hours of play. I spent about 85% of my time to that point on the main quest line, so I could probably see the end in 20 hours if I rush into it. After early reports about the length of the game, this was a surprise.

But I say "end" because Cyberpunk 2077 has a lot of them. Obviously I got a " bad "ending, one that couldn't have screamed" play more side quests and repeat the last one " louder if I tried.

Obviously, it's a strategic decision. One of the game's designers noted that Cyberpunk's main mission was shorter than The Witcher 3 because many players of that game didn't actually hang there long enough to finish it. Many side quests in Cyberpunk feel as consequential as "main" quests as a result, but the upside is that the main story never becomes impractical.

The heart of the city
While you can technically finish the game in more than 20 hours, don't let that make you think Cyberpunk 2077 isn't a giant. I suspect you can spend more than 100 quality hours exploring the Night City and dealing with the people that inhabit it. (It was reported widely recently that developer Cd Projekt has spent more than 175 hours in a single game without finishing the story.)

The game regularly encourages you to stay away from the main story, inviting you to pursue side quests or participate in unspecified adventures. It's good advice, since some of the most fun I've had so far is to do side quests: one favorite The Chase involves seven taxi powered AI gone rogue, a quest that involves creative play but also write funny legitimate.

V wagons are varied on the side. Some feel like lite versions of the main tasks, others, like those focused on street racing or boxing, become mini-games themselves.

The game is full of things to do sometimes sometimes to a fault. You'll get texts from characters who offer you jobs while you're in the middle of important conversations. Sometimes you'll want to deal with a Night City as a sandbox and you have the game, but you will change of phone calls from people requesting help or offering you a new car to buy. Sometimes Cyberpunk deceives you.

It's okay, though, because all the activity moves the Night City. Johnny Silverhand may be breathtaking, but Night City is the real star here. It consists of seven regions, each with distinct design and backstory. Several different gangs roam the streets. Exerting pressure from above are several different huge companies with their own armies.

Cyberpunk 2077 is not glitch-free, but most of the issues are benign-like these two cars that were stuck together.

There is a great deal of science surrounding the Night City (on how the US government collapsed, and how big companies picked up the pieces) but more is unimaginably informed by the text files that pickup as loot. The date that precedes 2077 is fascinating, but you'll have to get out of your way, and have a high tolerance for reading long text files in the game, to learn more about it.

Rather, it is the artistic design of the city itself that makes the Night City irresistible: the majestic skyscrapers that fill the city center, the rust of the abandoned resort town Pacifica, the blue and pink neon that illuminates Japantown, the polluted plains of the Badlands. Drugs and violence Mar all but richer corners of the Night City, but there is much to wonder at this grim reality.

Many side tasks feel as consequential as the "main"ones. The upside is that the main story doesn't become impractical.
It's an exceptionally beautiful game. Running a PC game in 4K on a high-end Rog Strix , I often found myself stopping to get into vista (often while driving, or endangering my fellow motorists), to enjoy the details on the character's model or how it reflects the neon light close to the sidewalk and people. The fight is filled with hideous details, as when the limbs fly and blood flows after the explosion of a grenade or a katana slice.

Cyberpunk 2077 is not glitch-free, but most of the issues are benign, such as your hair sometimes disappear in cutscenes, a floating cigarette appears in front of a talking character, or seeing two cars stuck together on a city street at night. Glitches rarely cause a real problem. There were two cases where I had to restart the game because the mission would not progress, and once I reloaded Cyberpunk after my health bar disappeared.

This is made less of a problem than during the autosave repeated game, even if you have to restart the game, you won't re-download more than two minutes behind her. It's not a dealbreaker, but a hassle-one that Cd Projekt RED will hopefully fix in the next patch, as it did with The Witcher quirks 3.

Play a role
Will your preferences will dictate how the story unfolds, Cyberpunk, any pace, but perhaps more important is how the game lets you design fighting for your style of play. Not only can you choose to be brute or pry, you can choose any particular type of brute or pry you want to be.
